It is one of the more important functions of a church body in the course of the year: commissioning deacons and elders to care for and to govern it’s members for the coming year.
In case you missed Pastor Mary Ann’s message in the newsletter,
this is what the Book of Order has to say about the Session:
The Session is the council for the congregation. It shall be composed of those persons elected by the congregation to active service as ruling elders, together with all installed pastors and associate pastors. All members of the session are entitled to vote. The pastor shall be the moderator of the season, and the session shall not meet without the pastor or designated moderator. The session shall have responsibility for governing the congregation and guiding its witness to the sovereign activity of God in the world, so that the congregation is and becomes a community of faith, hope, love, and witness. (G-3.02, p. 48)
This is what the Book of Order has to say about Deacons:
The ministry of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress. (G-2.02, p. 26)
So . . . CONGRATULATIONS to Joyce, Wayne and Paula and a heartfelt THANK YOU for your service – it is a lifetime commitment.
